Welcome to the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association – Glasgow & West of Scotland Branch website. We hope you find this site useful & informative. Should you wish further information or clarity regarding anything within the branch or the website, please send us a message using the Contact Us page.
The branch was formed in 1952 by William Sloan (McLean Pipe Band) who was appointed as the first Chairman of the then Glasgow & District Branch. In the mid 1950’s the branch name was changed to the present name to reflect the fact that bands from Campbeltown, Cowal, Oban and the islands were part of the branch membership.
In the early 1960’s the Lanarkshire Branch was amalgamated with the Glasgow & West of Scotland Branch which is still the same today.
The branch currently organises outdoor contests at Gourock, Shotts, Lesmahagow, Helensburgh, Paisley, The Isle of Bute and Cowal. In addition, it holds the Indoor Full Band and Solo Drumming Contest at Coatbridge and Juvenile Solo Piping in Glasgow.
In 2009 the branch became a non profit making organisation with any surplus cash returned to branch bands by way of a loyalty payment to bands that support the branch contests.
The Glasgow & West of Scotland Branch is committed to continual learning, with a variety of Courses, Qualifications & Workshops available. For further information visit the Learning page.
The Glasgow & West of Scotland Branch is administered by a Committee, which is elected at the Annual General Meeting.
